The members of Abundant Life hail mainly from the communities of Bird’s Hill, East St. Paul, St. Clements and Winnipeg. Some are life-long Lutherans, some have come from other faith traditions, some have not grown up in the church at all but now find a meaningful connection with Christ through the people and ministries here.
In the “official sense,” through the Sacrament of Baptism, individuals are received into the family of Christ. Through the rite of baptism they enter into membership in a specific faith community. Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism) is the rite by which an individual enters into full, voting membership in the congregation. At ALL, this usually takes place for youth around the 11th grade. However, adults, following a period of study, may also become members by Affirmation of Baptism or Confession of Faith. Individuals from other Lutheran or Anglican congregations can transfer their membership with some paperwork and reception during a worship service. Membership entitles one to serve on the council, to vote on decisions about the life of Abundant Life at congregational meetings, and to be designated as delegates to local, synod and national conventions. The Constitution link has additional information about membership.
If you happen to be looking for a church home, we invite you to visit and linger “for a season” as you consider Abundant Life becoming your faith community. Contact the pastor for information.
