While we are normally talking about youth being confirmed, adults may also enter a period of study after which they would affirm their faith in the public setting of a worship service.
Orientation to the Longer-Later Confirmation Program
Grade 3 Distribution of Bibles (September)
Grade 4 Visit from Pastor in the spring, with material for personal/family spiritual formation—Bible reading, discussion, prayer.
Grade 5 Five-six classes on Holy Communion; acolyte orientation
Grade 6 Five-six classes on Holy Baptism
Grade 7 Five-six classes on Prayer
Grade 8 10-12 classes on the Hebrew Scriptures
Grade 9 10-12 classes on the Newer Testament
Between grades 7-9, students are expected to attend at least one confirmation camp experience (several congregations coming together). These have normally been held at Luther Village (near Kenora, ON) with congregational leaders taking responsibility for learning sessions and camp staff for fun stuff.
Students entering 7th grade are also invited to join the youth group where opportunities to deepen faith through learning, service, leadership development and fun are offered.
Grade 10 Five-six sessions on the Commandments, the Creeds, and Lutheran Heritage. The program is rounded out with several sessions with an adult mentor in the congregation—conversations around life, school, family and relationships, faith and future directions.
Students in the Confirmation Program serve as acolytes beginning in 5th grade. They are also encouraged to assist in worship according to their gifts and interests.
Grade 11 Meeting for preparation for the rite of Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation). Confirmation usually takes place in a worship service at the end of October or early November.
